In a historic 19th-century building located on one of the main avenues in central Lisbon, Atelier ARS has designed the interiors of a penthouse where classic architecture and contemporary design blend naturally. The renovation of the building, carried out by the renowned Frederico Valsassina Arquitetos studio, has preserved its traditional character, now reinterpreted with sophistication and constructive rigor.
From the outset of this project, the goal was clear: to create an urban retreat with a distinctly masculine identity, where every detail contributed to a coherent, discreet, and intentional visual narrative. The house was not meant to be merely functional or aesthetic—it was meant to be lived in with rhythm and soul.
Based on a refined language, where a palette of dark tones establishes a solid and elegant foundation, the lines are pure, the volumes harmonious, and the furniture—sometimes selected, sometimes custom-designed by Atelier ARS—exudes a subtle luxury, full of sophistication and discretion. Modernity and comfort come together in a welcoming, refined, and understated environment.
Lighting was treated as a structuring element. During the day, natural light floods the spaces through large windows, reflecting off matte surfaces and enhancing textures and materials. At night, the atmosphere changes: sculptural lamps and recessed lights create an intimate, almost cinematic environment, where each room takes on a distinct presence.
More than just an apartment with contemporary lines, this penthouse is a statement of good taste and restraint. A space designed for those who value detail, consistency, and the experience of living with intention—in a precise balance between modernity and timelessness.

"Ana and her team ran an extremely efficient yet personalized process. In addition to designing the entire apartment, including 3 ensuite bedrooms, living room + dining area, kitchen, office, and roof terrace, Ana also interfaced with my architect and contractors which saved me a lot of time and improved structural aspects of the apartment considerably.
